The most common way is the reading of the “MRZ” which stands for “Machine Readable Zone”. If you look at the bottom of any international passport you will see the machine-readable zone that looks like this:
The MRZ has limited information, therefore, we have enabled idMax to also read the full page of international passports which is also referred to as the “VIZ” or Visual Zone”
The VIZ is harder to read but has a lot more information than the MRZ. idMax can also compare information from the MRZ to the OCR captured from the VIZ to assist with document authentication. idMax is unique in its ability to read passports from over 160 countries and counting!
